Free Family Connects Workshops for Expecting Parents: Preparing for a Big Life Transition
Pregnancy and preparing for early parenthood is a lot of work! Join us for a free workshop where you will learn important skills that will help you feel calm, confident, and connected as you handle one of life’s biggest transitions.
In this 1.5-hour, hands-on, experiential class hosted by Julie Hanson, LCPC, LCMFT and Catherine Easter, LCSW-C of Inner Evolution, you can expect to gain:
Calm: Practice new ways to relax, manage stress, and handle tough emotions so that your mind and body feels balanced and prepared for parenthood.
Confidence: Learn about pregnancy and postpartum mental health, what's normal, what’s not, and when to seek additional support.
Connection: Spend time in class with other expecting parents, make new friends, and learn how to treat yourself with care and kindness to help your family be happy and healthy.
You will also learn about Family Connects Frederick County, a free service available to all Frederick County residents with a newborn which provides an at-home nurse visit when baby is about 3 weeks old.
Completely free, regardless of insurance coverage, this vital service is designed to support birth parents, newborns, and immediate family members with personalized and accessible health and community resources.

Remember Love & Restoring Hope
The Frederick County Health Department (FCHD) invites those who have lost a loved one to participate in an event called “Remembering Love & Restoring Hope” to be held in August to honor the lives lost to drug or alcohol overdose.
Anyone interested in having their loved one be included in the event can submit information through an online form. Submissions will be accepted through July 15, 2026.

2nd Annual Frederick Diaper Drive
Join Blessed Provisions Inc. for their 2nd Annual Frederick Diaper Drive! We are collecting diapers (sizes 4–8 most needed; open or new packages), Pull-Ups (all sizes), baby wipes, and individually wrapped period products.
All donations support Frederick County families in need. 1 in 2 families cannot afford enough diapers to keep their child clean, dry, and healthy. Rotary Club of Frederick is a supporting partner.

The Frederick County Health Department (FCHD) is excited to introduce a training opportunity to learn more about Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs). During these training sessions, information will be provided on the purpose, process, and significance of ERPOs, understand what ERPOs are and their legal foundation in Frederick and Washington counties, recognize who can petition for an ERPO and under what circumstance, learn the knowledge and skills to appropriately utilize ERPOs as a tool to prevent gun violence, and learn the ERPO process from start to finish.

The Frederick County Division of Aging and Independence is excited to continue a partnership with AARP through the AARP Driver Safety Program. This engaging classroom refresher course is specifically designed to enhance driving skills, teach safe driving strategies, and update participants on current road rules. Additionally, attendees will learn about normal age-related physical changes and how to adjust their driving habits accordingly.
Registration Details:

The cost is $20 for AARP members (with card) and $25 for non-members.

"We Need to Talk" seminar hosted by AARP & Frederick County Division of Aging and Independence
AARP, in collaboration with the Frederick County Division of Aging and Independence, is hosting the "We Need to Talk" seminar on Thursday, August 6. Led by AARP Driver Safety Instructor Nina Uzick, the seminar offers practical tips and advice on topics such as observing driving skills, planning conversations, and finding alternatives to driving as well as information about Frederick County Transit Services.
This free seminar is open to seniors, their families, and caregivers. It is designed to guide families and friends in determining when it’s time for their loved ones to limit or stop driving. While knowing when the time is right can be difficult, surveys show that more than half of older drivers whose family asks them to retire from driving listen and follow the suggestions of others.

The public is invited to share feedback that will help shape how Frederick County invests funding from the Community Reinvestment and Repair Fund (CRRF). The Community Reinvestment and Repair Fund is a state program that directs cannabis tax revenues and conversion fees back into the communities most impacted by past cannabis prohibition.
Public input is essential to ensure that CRRF dollars are used effectively and transparently. As the County develops its reinvestment plan, community perspectives will guide decisions regarding programs, services, and projects that can deliver long-term impact.
Drop in at one of two public information sessions in the Trust Room of the C. Burr Artz Library to share comments with Frederick County Government staff. The first session will take place on Thursday, July 16 from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. and the second session will take place on Saturday, August 1 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
No advance registration is required. Participants will have the opportunity to share comments, ask questions, and learn more about CRRF, including eligible uses and next steps in the planning process.

Protecting Every Voice: Supporting Multilingual Children in Abuse Prevention and Response
Multilingual children face unique challenges in disclosing and seeking help for child sexual abuse (CSA). Language barriers, cultural stigma, and differing norms around communication and authority can influence a child’s and family’s ability to access support.
This presentation explores the experiences of multilingual children of Latino/Hispanic and Asian descent, while drawing broader implications for children from diverse minority backgrounds. The session will equip professionals with tools to navigate the complexities of CSA within multilingual families through the lens of cultural humility and trauma-informed care. Understanding one’s own identity is pivotal to practicing cultural humility and fostering trust with children and families from multilingual backgrounds.

Asbury UMC Annual Community Block Party
Join Asbury United Methodist Church in one of their most cherished and impactful community traditions—the Annual Community Block Party, taking place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This vibrant, family-friendly event will be held on the 100 blocks of West All Saints Street and is completely free and open to the public.
Each year, the Community Block Party brings together thousands of our neighbors, families, children, and community partners for a day filled with connection, celebration, and care. The block comes alive with food, games, music, entertainment, crafts, health screenings, prayer, and meaningful interaction with local organizations that serve Frederick with heart and purpose.

Public Hearing for Draft of Community Development Block Grant 2026 Annual Action Plan
Members of the public are invited to review and comment on Frederick County’s Community Development Block Grant 2026 Annual Action Plan. The public comment period will remain open through the close of business on Tuesday, July 21. Residents are encouraged to review the draft plan and provide their feedback.
An in-person and virtual public hearing will be held by the County Council on Tuesday, July 7 at 5:30 p.m. in the First Floor Hearing Room of Winchester Hall, 12 East Church Street in Frederick, MD. The purpose of the hearing is to gather the public’s feedback on the proposed plan. Members of the public will be given an opportunity to voice their opinions, with each speaker allotted three minutes to provide comments.
Frederick County is designated an urban county eligible to receive yearly federal funds through the Community Development Block Grant Program. The initial Consolidated Plan covering Federal Fiscal Years 2025-2027 was accepted by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in September 2025. The three-year plan outlines a strategy to address housing and community development needs, sets goals, and explains how the funds will be used to help low- and moderate-income residents. This 2026 Annual Action Plan outlines the activities to help make communities stronger by supporting housing, local services, and other community projects.

Healthy Hearts Class for Adults with High Blood Pressure
Healthy Hearts is a no-cost program for adults with high blood pressure. Participants receive a free home blood pressure monitor with instruction on how to use it, and support for developing the habit of routinely taking their BP at home. The program also provides nutrition education and group support and encouragement for making healthy lifestyle changes.
This summer class will meet every other week on Wednesday mornings 9-10:15am at the Frederick County Health Department. Participants must register in advance and attend one of two Orientation sessions: Wed, June 17 or Wed, June 24. The 4-month program will start on July 1 and end on Oct 7, 2026.
