    Malcolm Furgol

    Executive Director

    Malcolm is our Executive Director. In this role, Malcolm uses his collaboration skills to bring people together from across the varied geographic, cultural, and professional segments of the community to work towards the same goal: a healthier Frederick County. Malcolm is a graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he studied history. He was drawn to the nonprofit sector following volunteer experiences in college. While serving as the Director of Community Impact & Grants at United Way of Frederick County, Malcolm worked with the Adult Dental Care LHIP Workgroup to open the Adult Dental Clinic at Frederick Health and saw the potential for positive change through the LHIP. Malcolm is a graduate of Leadership Frederick County, Montgomery College’s Nonprofit Leadership Bootcamp, and Leadership Greater Washington’s Rising Leaders program. You are likely to see Malcolm building relationships and attending community events. In his downtime, he enjoys riding his motorcycle and spending time with his two children.

    Program Manager

    LHIP Program Manager

    This position develops, implements, supports and promotes healthier community strategies defined by CHFC utilizing creative communication, clear messaging and effective planning / execution of key organizational events. Handles multiple projects simultaneously and meets timelines as developed. Coordinates and collaborates with other CHFC and Local Health Improvement Planning (LHIP) staff, board members, volunteers and community, Frederick Health and Frederick County Health Department partners.

    The Program Manager is a management position responsible for the direction and coordination of activities within the scope of the identified broad health improvement areas.

    The Program Manager develops critical community partnership relationships; directs staff to success at forming and managing unique community collaboration; coordinates and assists CHFC board meetings and assures development and implementation of annual activities to accomplish targeted local health improvement goals. The Program Manager is also accountable for developing LHIP Workgroup Coordinators and creating a healthy work culture.

    LHIP Workgroup Coordinator
    Priorities: ACEs & Type Two Diabetes

    Lisa is our Workgroup Coordinator for two of the Local Health Improvement Process (LHIP) workgroups. She supports the ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and Diabetes workgroups. In this role, she uses her communication and planning skills to bolster the accomplishments of strategic health improvement goals. Lisa is a graduate of Hood College in Frederick, MD and has been with the Frederick Health organization for over five years. Her work coordinating Diabetes Self-Management Program workshops and the Bridges Lay Health Educator Program has given her useful experience for her new LHIP role. You are likely to see Lisa out at community events connecting with other nonprofits or promoting diabetes awareness. In her downtime, she enjoys hiking, walking, yoga, and exploring the many local businesses.

    Summer McClellan

    LHIP Workgroup Coordinator
    Priority: Mental Health

    Summer is the Workgroup Coordinator for our Local Health Improvement Process (LHIP) Mental Health workgroup. In this role, she utilizes strategic communication and planning methods to ensure the workgroup achieves its goals surrounding mental health improvement within Frederick County. Summer is a graduate of Salisbury University’s Public Health program and is passionate about health communication, promotion, and advocacy. You are likely to see Summer always aiming to help others and being productive, whether it’s at work, pushing through her master's program, or improving her own health and wellbeing at the gym. Summer continuously makes efforts to live by her bright and cheerful name by trying to be a source of sunshine in others’ lives. In her downtime, she appreciates long walks, going out with friends and family, and simply relaxing.

    Akiyyah Billups

    Grants and Data Specialist

    Akiyyah is our Grants and Data Specialist. Akiyyah’s grant and funding role allows her to play a key role in planning, managing, and advancing funding efforts in support of the Coalition for a Healthier Frederick’s LHIP Workgroups as well as advocating for improved data disaggregation with health improvement coalitions (LHICs) throughout the state. Akiyyah brings with her a wealth of knowledge including leadership and lived experiences. She co-found Black Mamas Building Bridges, a local advocacy group that raises awareness for disparities that impact the maternal health of black women, as well as racial and social justice. You are likely to see Akiyyah actively engaged within her community through speaking, serving, or engaging in meaningful conversations. In her downtime, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children or being on a beach with her feet in the sand!
