News Release: Frederick County Health Care Coalition is now the Coalition for a Healthier Frederick County

Frederick County, July 18th, 2023 – The Frederick County Health Care Coalition, a leader in improving health care access and outcomes in the region, announces its new name, Coalition for a Healthier Frederick County. This strategic rebranding reflects the organization's renewed commitment to improve wellness and resiliency to equitably impact the lifelong health of all Frederick County Residents.

“The Coalition for a Healthier Frederick County is a structured way for our community to collaborate for the lifelong health of all the residents in our County at a deep  systemic level,” explains President of the Board of Directors, Pilar Olivo, “…None of us can effect measurable change on our own.”

The Frederick County Health Department has selected the Coalition as Frederick County’s local health improvement coalition (LHIC); establishing a LHIC is a state requirement for local health departments. The Coalition has strengthened its collaboration with the Frederick County Health Department and the local health system, Frederick Health Hospital. Beyond these two partners, the Coalition intentionally seeks representation from a variety of organizations and residents from across the county, and currently involves more than 200 member organizations in their three active workgroups addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) in Adolescents, Mental Health and Type 2 Diabetes.   The Coalition for a Healthier Frederick County unites diverse stakeholders to address Frederick County’s specific health challenges and foster long-lasting positive change.

Continued by Executive Director, Malcolm Furgol, “We provide a path for all organizations to collaborate by identifying priorities, data and metrics.  Our workgroups coordinate to enact shared action plans to reduce health disparities and increase health equity.”

The growth of the Coalition is made possible by a group of committed funders including Frederick Health, Frederick County Government through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the Ausherman Family Foundation, the Leadership Conference Education Fund and the Helen J. Serini Foundation. The Coalition is actively working to expand support for their work and welcomes participation from organizations with a shared interest in equitably and positively impacting the lifelong health of all Frederick County residents.

About the Coalition for a Healthier Frederick County: The Coalition for a Healthier Frederick County, formerly known as the Frederick County Health Care Coalition, engages in non-legislative advocacy and in system integration and coordination in order to improve wellness and resiliency to equitably impact the lifelong health of all Frederick County residents.
