From the Heart:
Creative expressions in mental wellness
Background
The Mental Health Workgroup of the Frederick County Local Health Improvement Process (LHIP) has launched a community-wide art and mental wellness-based campaign titled From the Heart: Creative expressions in mental wellness.
This campaign aims to foster an inclusive and compassionate community by embracing the power of art to challenge societal stigmas surrounding mental health.
From the Heart creates safe and supportive spaces where individuals can freely express themselves and explore the intersection between creativity and mental wellness. Our monthly community events provide opportunities for grassroots participation in various artistic endeavors, helping us raise awareness about art’s vital role in nurturing mental well-being.
We firmly believe in the healing potential of creative expression in promoting mental health and wellness. From the Heart works to break down barriers and normalize mental health awareness, while eradicating the stigma attached to mental health issues. Our ultimate goal is to cultivate a society that celebrates and values the connection between art and mental wellness.

Submission Spotlight: 2024 Expressions of Empowerment
“This video resonates with me. The message did not make me smile, laugh or cheer for myself. It found its way into my heart and brain, which allowed me to pay attention.
What if I am often blindsided by my anxiety, doubting myself and my significance in the world? What do I need to know?
Yes, life is a journey. Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel. I shall keep myself open to the chance of finding my own song of hope and trust. Step by step, Mary Lynn.”
